You couldn't really call Gulvain remote. I reckon that as the crow flies it's only ten miles to the nearest Morrisons, half that to the road by Loch Eil, and a quarter to the carpark at the head of Loch Arkaig. But try accessing Gulvain from any of those places without some significant ups and downs, and you'll have trouble. Our approach was about 11 miles, but it had the merit of going only up on the way there, and only down on the way out. There's radical!

As usual, we were starting out late in the day, after the long drive north. With the car thermometer having registered 28
